PerceptionAs the days grow longer and the dawns burst ever brighter, I can't help but notice the shadows cast by the new light.
Although one side of each blade of grass is drenched in the warmth of a new day, the other side drips with cold, black shadows.
It is easy to lose yourself in such dark depths.
It is easier still to find yourself subconsciously filtering the world you percieve.
Too late do you realise that the bright things have long since faded into ghostly remnants of what they once were. The darkness, in all its profound clarity, is the only real thing that is left in your world.
Even when you close your eyes, seeking comfort in the sanctuary of your own mind, the dark prevails.
Yet, your placid face betrays not the decaying of your mind.
Even as you feel the hollowness at the heart of your dreams crumbling in on itself, your face does not betray you.
And, of course, it never will.
You open your eyes, and carry on...greeting the shadows like old friends.
